1993 Oval Patch:

Green Bar Bill w/World Flags

Bill Hillcourt was called the Scoutmaster To The World.  Bill was a native of Denmark where he became a Boy Scout in January, 1911, at 11 years of age after he had been given the newly translated "Scouting For Boys" as a Christmas Gift.  He became the Danish equivalent of an Eagle Scout and was sent by his Troop to the First World Jamboree in London in 1920.  The success of the Danish team earned it the right to host the 2nd World Jamboree.  Bill wrote his first book at the age of 23.   It was a tale of Scout camping based on his own Patrol's experiences.  New York attracted Bill in September of 1926.  Bill later convinced James West that the BSA was not using the Patrol method correctly.  West challenged him to write the Handbook For Patrol Leaders.  Bill took the nickname "Green Bar Bill" from the patrol leaders badge as his Boy's Life pseudonym.  Green Bar Bill wrote over 300 articles for Boy's Life.

1993 Circle:
Green Bar Bill Hillcourt Memorial

(Bill Hillcourt was "Green Bar Bill", and he knew and worked with Lord Baden-Powell.  Bill wrote the Boy Scout Handbook.  He was a frequent visitor to Cincinnati, having once been the Scoutmaster of Joe Quick, Dan Beard Council's Chief Executive in the 80's and 90's.  Bill died in 1992, and the 1993 Peterloon was dedicated to him.

2002 Rectangle:
Peterloon's 75th Anniversary, "Homecoming"
Homecoming commemorated the 75th anniversary of the original encampment and marked the reopening of Camp Friedlander.  Now local Scouts could "come home" to a summer camp experience in their own council.  4,000 people from 200 troops and crews came from five states (Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Missouri) to attend Peterloon 2002.

Note: Clicking on this picture will display a set of five patches, each surrounded by a different color border.

2004 Two Lobed Rectangle:
"
Gateways" -- The beginning of a series of patches built on the Gateways theme where each year the theme would be a gateway to a different facet of Scouting.

Note: Clicking on this picture will display a set of two patches, each surrounded by a different color border.

(BIG thanks to Pat Long for the scans of the two patch set!)

2006 Two Lobed Rectangle:
"
Gateways to High Adventure"
This continued the Gateways theme and engendered a competition of displays showing exceptionally interesting High Adventure Journeys taken by different Troops and Crews.  5,000 people (including 723 Webelos) from 236 troops and crews (including 65 units from 10 other councils outside of the Dan Beard council) attended.

(BIG thanks to Pat Long for the new and improved scans!)

2008 Four Lobed Circle:
"
Building Leaders, Inspiring Achievement"
This patch continues using the Gateway theme from the previous two Peterloons in the center portion of the patch but includes an artist's rendition of the new Marge Schott Scout Achievement Center in the top lobe of the patch.  The left and right lobes include the theme statements which reinforce the construction motif associated with building the first Scout Achievement Center in the nation.

Note: There are three different color borders for this year's patches (Gold for Scouts, Red for Scoutmasters, and Silver for Staff).

2010 Chevroned Pocket Patch:
"Achievements of the Past -- Foundations for the Future"
This patch celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America and was designed as a pocket patch for the right chest pocket.

The left facing silhouette is that of a Scout wearing a 1910 campaign hat looking back at the first 100 years of Scouting and all the accomplishments achieved over those years, and the right facing silhouette is that of a Scout wearing a 2010 design ball cap looking forward at all the accomplishments to be achieved in the next 100 years.

Note: There are three different color borders for this year's patches (Green for Participants, Red for Scoutmasters, and Blue for Staff and Volunteers).

(This page will be updated as more patches and information become available.)
